Team Bangladesh won 15 awards, including 3 gold medals, at the 25th International Robot Olympiad (IRO) held in Athens, Greece from January 16-19, 2024. Out of 1,400 students representing 26 countries, the Bangladesh team secured 3 gold, 6 silver, 4 bronze, and 2 technical medals.
The gold medalists were:
- Zaima Jahin Wara (William Carey Academy) from Robosparks in ‘Robot in Movie Junior’
- Nasheetat Zainah Rahman (Mastermind English Medium School), Propa Halder (Birshreshtha Munshi Abdur Rouf Public College), and Marjia Afifa Prithibi (South Point School and College) from Robo Idiots in ‘Robot in Movie Senior’
- Misbah Uddin Inan (Chattogram Cantonment Public College) from Zeroth Team in ‘Creative Idea Senior’
Silver medals went to:
- Mahruz Mohammad Ayman (Navy Anchorage School and College Dhaka) from Team Pie in ‘Creative Junior’
- Zaima Jahin Wara and Mahruz Mohammad Ayman from Teams Robosparkars and Pie respectively in ‘Physical Computing Junior’
- Misbah Uddin Inan and Sadia Akter Sarna (Viqarunnisa Noon School and College) from Team Zeroth in ‘Robot in Movie Senior’
- Maisha Sobhan, Samia Mehnaz, and Maskur Malik Mustafa (Notre Dame College) from Team Aficionados in ‘Robot in Movie Senior’
- Mahir Tajwar Chowdhury (Mirzapur Cadet College) from Team Ex-Fanatic in ‘AI Autonomous Driving Senior’
The winners were awarded at the Faliro Coastal Zone Olympic Complex on January 20. Professor Dr. Lafifa Jamal, Team Captain and Central Committee member, commended the achievements and called for establishing a modern robotics lab to further skill up students.
The team was selected through the 6th Bangladesh Robot Olympiad national competition held in September 2023.
