As the conversation continued, the caller claimed that an attacker had been accessing Mitrovic’s account for a week and had already downloaded sensitive data. This revelation understandably alarmed him, as it connected back to the recovery notification he had received earlier.
While on the call, Mitrovic conducted a quick online search for the phone number and found it linked to Google business pages, which added to the realism of the scam. “At the start of the call, you’ll hear the reason for the call and that the call is from Google,” he explained.
